Distance between ZIP codes

Enter two ZIP codes and get the straight-line distance between them.

Calculate the distance between two ZIP codes

This tool measures the straight-line distance between the center of two U.S. ZIP codes — handy for estimating shipping coverage, planning routes, or comparing locations. The calculation uses the geographic coordinates of each ZIP code.

Keep in mind it's an approximate, as-the-crow-flies distance: actual driving distance will be longer depending on streets and highways. Don't know a ZIP code? Find itby your location or browse by state.

Frequently asked questions

Is the distance by road or straight-line?+

It's the straight-line distance (the shortest possible path between two points) between the center of each ZIP code. It does not reflect driving distance, which depends on the available roads.

How is the distance calculated?+

We use the geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) of the center of each ZIP code and compute the distance between the two points with the Haversine formula, which accounts for the curvature of the Earth.

Why can't some ZIP codes be calculated?+

A small share of ZIP codes (often PO Box or Unique types) don't have registered geographic coordinates. If either ZIP code lacks coordinates, the distance can't be calculated.
